International delegates at the Thank You BBQ Breakfast on the strand, 03/11/06
Townsville City Council secured sponsorship for 15 community-based delegates to attend the 2006 International Ecotourism Conference.

These delegates were supported by local businesses, organizations and community groups and could otherwise not have afforded to attend the Conference. They were able to connect with Townsville’s community, as most of them were hosted by Townsville’s community members and families interested in sharing experiences and knowledge with them.

International delegates were the highlight of the Conference, and most of them were able to attend the 1st Ecotourism Societies Meeting prior to the Conference, gathering representatives from 15 countries around the world. The delegates were able to share their experiences, concerns and ideas on Ecotourism in their respective countries and meet with other ecotourism societies’ representatives.

Most delegates were able to discover Townsville and its locales during Eco-field trips on the last day of the Conference.

Community delegates were able to meet their local supporters and host community members during a Thank You BBQ breakfast organised by Townsville City Council on the Strand on the 3rd of November 2006. See photos of the breakfast.
