Common Name: White cedar
   
Family: Meliaceae
   
Form and Size: Spreading tree, 8 - 10m high, higher in rainforest areas, deciduous.
   
Distribution: North-eastern Qld, to south-eastern NSW and WA in both rainforest and drier inland areas.
   
Flowers: Lilac, purple stamen, fragrant 5 petalled, about 2cm in diameter; borne on terminal racemes.
   
Flowering Period: October to November.
   
Fruit: Berries, yellow, egg-shaped about 1.5cm in diameter.
   
Cultivation/Notes: Propagate from seed. A hardy plant, popular as a shade tree in inland areas. Often severely defoliated by hungry caterpillars. The fruit are poisonous to humans and some animals.
