Common Name: Tulipwood, Tulip Lancewood, Black Tulip
   
Family: Sapindaceae
   
Form and Size: A small to medium tree, 8 - 10m high with a widely spreading crown.
   
Distribution: Cooktown, Qld. to Bellinger River, N.S.W.; in rainforests and along stream banks.
   
Flowering Period: November to January.
   
Fruit: Whole fruit 8 - 12cm long - consisting of wrinkly ovoid capsules 1 -1.5cm in diameter, each with 2 long hairy papery wings attached- dark brown when ripe on long stalks in pendulous clusters.
   
Cultivation/Notes: Propagate from fresh seed. A very good shade tree, this plant is often used in parks and as a street tree. The timber is tough, light and attractively patterned.
