THE HISTORY
'Riverside Park’ was officially re-named ‘Rossiter
Park’ on the 23rd of November 2003, in honour of a great
campaigner for the advancement of North Queensland, Frank Rossiter.

Frank’s active participation in local and regional politics
began early with his tenacious campaigning for the construction
of a dam on the Burdekin River.
Frank was a staunch supporter for the construction of the dam
and his personal connection with the region ensured his fight
endured for 50 years. The official opening of Queensland’s
largest dam in 1988 was hailed as an ‘achievement of national
importance’.

A dedicated father of three, he also contributed many hours supporting
local sporting clubs, Gardens Swimming Club and the Picnic Bay
and Arcadian Surf Lifesaving Clubs.
A proud and true North Queenslander, Frank is remembered by many
as the “Father of the Burdekin Dam” and a fighter
for the betterment of the lives of people living and working in
North Queensland.
