School Tree Day – Held on Friday 25th of July 2003

in Council Forecourt

  1. 10-11 am Launch of National Tree Day & Presentation of Trees to participating Schools by Deputy Mayor and a representative from Delfin Lendlease.
  1. Media and photo opportunities were organised to document the launch of National Tree Day 2003 and School National Tree Day Tree Presentation.
  1. Participating schools then planted their trees within their own school grounds.
  2. A TCC natural area team and Greencorps provided assistance with planting, where requested by schools.




National Tree Day (Sunday 27th of July 2003) community plantings occurred at both Dalrymple Road and Wulguru Park (see below). A third community planting was undertaken the following weekend at Camira Park in Cranbrook.

This year there were 3 "official" community planting sites and many unofficial sites (including the footballers of Wulguru Soccer Club - well done guys!).

Dalrymple Road Reserve – Mount Louisa

Dalrymple road reserve - Mount Louisa (not for cadastral purposes)

  • Community Planting of 50 local residents and tree planters from across the city planted 800 local native trees (see photos below).
  • The planters were joined by a team from Councils engineering business unit - Citiworks.

  • at 11 am BBQ was held with Drinks kindly sponsored by Mike Carney Toyota and cooked on the spot by Lions Club
  • Free local native trees were handed our to participants and volunteers for them to plant in their own backyards

Edison Street Park – Wulguru

Edison street park aerial view (not for cadastral purposes) Community planting held at 2pm on Sunday 27 July with 35 local residents and ward councillor Les Walker.

Free local native trees were handed out to participants and volunteers to plant on their own backyards along with free drinks.

Camira Park – Cranbrook


Community Planting commenced at 8.30 with 40 local residents and ward councillor Ray Cloonan.

BBQ and Drinks followed as a small reward for a mighty fine effort. Thanks to the great cook too.

Free trees were also given out to volunteers to plant in their backyards
