Last year's
National Tree Day has been the biggest and most successful
ever! Thanks to hundreds of thousands of Australians, Tree
Day has achieved a new record-breaking outcome.
Tree Day is organised nationally by Planet Ark and brought
to you by Toyota and the AMP Foundation. We would all like to
extend a heartfelt thank to all those who helped make National
Tree Day Australia's single biggest tree planting event.
More than 247,000 people joined together to plant 2.2 million
native trees and shrubs at over 3,440 sites across the country.
Hundreds of thousands of children greened up Australia on Schools
Tree Day - more than 2,200 schools and 300 councils got involved
in last year's event!
Toyota, makers of the Prius electric/petrol hybrid car had
163 dealerships organise sites around the country. Over 1,000
AMP employees and financial planners also planted thousands
of native trees on the day. Greening Australia helped to organise
over 400 sites. Starbucks donated hundreds of kilos of freshly
brewed coffee to volunteers at sites across Australia and Lions
clubs also pitched in with their famous barbeques.
Reinforcing the participatory spirit of the event, hundreds
of community and environment groups like Landcare, Bushcare,
schools, church groups, Lions and Apex clubs organised sites
on the day.
Without people digging in and doing their bit to help green
up Australia, we would not have achieved these phenomenal results.
Thanks again for your efforts!
