Julie McIntosh, founded The Classic Safari Company in 1992, a company specialising in wilderness travel to Africa. Julie, was born in South Africa and has travelled through Africa extensively visiting many of the premier national parks and the accommodation within. As a continent and with nature being the predominant reason for people visiting, there are many examples of sustainable eco-tourism projects.

Abstract:

The African Ecotourism Experience: The Classic Safari Company approach, will explore some of the successful eco-tourism projects in Southern and East Africa. The presentation will highlight the formulas for their success, provide insights into the magnitude of the projects undertaken and how the involvement of the local communities is necessary to ensure their long term sustainability.
