The Ross River Parkway project will
link numerous parks from the
Federation Footbridge to the City. The
parkway includes Gleeson’s Weir Park
with its new lookout and Rossiter Park
at Kimball Street which has recently
been upgraded and renamed in
honour of Frank Rossiter. But if you
want a shorter journey, try one of the
3 new circuits.
Federation Circuit 7.2km
The Federation Circuit is the longest
of the three circuits at 7.2km, starting
at the Federation Footbridge. It then
passes Black Weir, through Cranbrook
and past the new lookout at Gleeson’s
Weir, across the Nathan Street Bridge
and back through Douglas and
Riverside Gardens.
Aplin’s Weir Circuit 5.4km
The Aplin’s Weir Circuit is the shortest
circuit at 5.4km and starts at the
Nathan Street Bridge. This route passes
through the recently refurbished
Rossiter Park which now boasts new
BBQs and picnic tables, drink
fountains, park seats, upgraded
gazebos and car park. The path then
travels past the bush garden at
Thompson Street, across Aplin’s Weir
and back through Annandale.
Wetlands Circuit 6.3km
Starting at Aplin’s Weir, the Wetlands
Circuit is 6.3km long. The path goes
through Shrerriff Park, where 10
gym/exercise stations have been
installed and the new space net play
equipment is under construction, and
across the Bowen Road Bridge. Work is
underway on the Bowen Road Bridge
underpass, a BMX jump park at the
Murray Sporting Complex and a bridge
across the creek to Mannersley Place,
Annandale. This circuit is due for
completion in the next 2 years.
Future Work
Stage 2 of the project is underway and
should be completed in 2 years. Work
is still to be done in Annandale and
Fairfield Waters, around the Townsville
Golf Course, Bicentennial Park,
National Park and Hermit Park through
Sandy Crossing and Lou Litster Park.
